Known for his dedication and excellence in the field of journalism, Sumit was the Bureau Chief of Punekar News and had been battling acute necrotizing pancreatitis before his untimely demise.

Sumit’s cremation took place at Bopkhel Shamshan Ghat, where a large gathering of friends, relatives, and fellow journalists paid their respects. He leaves behind his parents, elder brother, wife, and two-year-old daughter, all of whom are mourning the loss of a beloved family member.

Having spent a decade at Punekar News, Sumit was a dynamic journalist who covered a wide range of topics, from crime to civic issues and transport services. His dedication to reporting the truth accurately and insightfully earned him a reputation as a reliable journalist with a strong network within various departments and residents’ associations across the city.

Originally hailing from Paina village in Uttar Pradesh, Sumit moved to Pune for his education, eventually completing his BBA from Balaji College. His passion for journalism led him to join Punekar News, a portal co-founded by his elder brother and a friend, where he made a lasting impact with his thorough reporting and commitment to the profession.

Mubarak Ansari, Managing Editor of Punekar News and a close friend of Sumit for nearly two decades, spoke highly of his character and professional integrity. He described Sumit as a gentleman who was respected by officials and loved by the people for his kind and helpful nature, leaving a void in the journalism community that will be hard to fill.
