Bengaluru and Pune have once again made headlines for their notorious traffic congestion issues, as they have been ranked sixth and seventh respectively among the world’s most congested cities according to the latest TomTom Traffic Index.
With an average travel time of 28 minutes and 10 seconds for 10 kilometers, Bengaluru secured the sixth spot on the list, closely followed by Pune with an average travel time of 27 minutes and 50 seconds. This comes as no surprise to residents who have been battling bumper-to-bumper traffic on a daily basis.
The index, which analyzed 387 cities worldwide, revealed that many cities experienced declines in average speeds, highlighting the urgent need for improved road infrastructure to alleviate congestion. While some cities saw no change in their traffic conditions, the findings underscore the importance of investing in sustainable transportation solutions.
London took the top spot on the list with the longest average travel time of 37 minutes and 20 seconds, followed by Dublin, Toronto, Milan, and Lima. With cities like Bengaluru and Pune facing significant traffic challenges, it is clear that a more proactive approach is needed to address congestion and improve the overall quality of life for residents.
As urban populations continue to grow, it is crucial for cities to prioritize investments in transportation infrastructure and traffic management solutions. By taking steps to reduce congestion, cities can enhance mobility, reduce travel times, and create a more sustainable transportation system for the future.
