Hey Pune folks, watch out for cybercriminals trying to trick you with fake websites related to the High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) mandate! With the government’s deadline looming, scammers are taking advantage of the situation to steal money from unsuspecting vehicle owners.
According to reports, around 25 lakh vehicles in Maharashtra need to get HSRP number plates installed by 30th April if they were manufactured before 2019. To make matters worse, fraudsters have set up bogus websites to deceive people into making payments for the registration process.
The Pune RTO recently highlighted this issue during a training session, where industry representatives shared instances of citizens falling victim to these scams. To combat this, officials are urging everyone to use only the official government website to apply for their HSRP plates and avoid getting scammed.
While HSRP has been mandatory for new vehicles since 2019, older vehicles are now required to comply as well. To streamline the process, private agencies have been appointed across Maharashtra, with Rosemarta handling operations in Pune. However, with only a few fitment centers available, the installation process has been slow, leaving room for cybercriminals to exploit the situation.
To stay safe, Regional Transport Officer Archana Gaikwad advises citizens to visit the official Transport Department website and follow the correct procedure for HSRP registration. Authorities are working to increase awareness and encourage people to report any suspicious activities related to the mandate.
So, remember to stay vigilant, use the official website for registration, and don’t fall for any shady schemes when it comes to getting your HSRP number plates in Pune!
