Hey there, folks! It’s been a bit of a chaotic day at Pune airport today, with flight operations being suspended for almost an hour due to some pesky birds causing a ruckus around the runway area.

According to Santosh Dhoke, the Pune Airport Director, the large flocks of birds near the runway forced all flight operations to come to a screeching halt. This led to the diversion of three flights and a whole bunch of delays for other flights trying to land or take off.

Passengers on board a flight from Delhi to Pune found themselves unexpectedly landing in Mumbai instead, while another flight from Chennai had to make a pit stop in Hyderabad. And to top it off, a Mumbai-Pune flight had to turn back to Mumbai after circling over Pune for an hour because of the bird activity.

One frustrated passenger shared, “I was flying from Mumbai to Pune, and we had to go back to Mumbai because of these birds. The pilot said it was too dangerous to land at Pune airport with all the bird activity going on.”

And it seems like the communication from the airlines wasn’t the best either, with one passenger mentioning that they were told there was a weather issue in Pune when in reality, the weather was just fine.

Bird strikes are no joke in the aviation world, as we saw back in May when 40 flamingos met an unfortunate end after colliding with an Emirates aircraft in Mumbai.

Overall, it was a rough day for travelers at Pune airport, with delays and diversions causing quite the headache. Let’s hope the airport authorities can get a handle on the bird situation and prevent incidents like this from happening again in the future. Stay safe out there, folks!
