Sandalwood theft is on the rise in Pune, with thieves becoming more daring in their tactics. Recently, a group of thieves threatened the owner of a bungalow on Fergusson Road before cutting down a sandalwood tree. Incidents like these have been reported from various parts of the city, including residential societies, government offices, and educational institutions.
Aryan Shirole, a resident of Shirole Road, filed a complaint at Deccan Police Station after thieves stole sandalwood from his bungalow ‘Shivarai.’ The thieves threatened Shirole with stones before making off with the stolen wood. Police Sub-Inspector Mahesh Bhosale is currently investigating the case.
This is not an isolated incident, as similar thefts have been reported in other areas of Pune. Thieves have targeted societies on Law College Road, Mukund Nagar, Market Yard, and Prabhat Road, showing no hesitation in using threats to get what they want. Even the premises of the Ammunition Factory in Khadki have not been spared from this growing trend of sandalwood theft.
The increasing number of thefts has raised concerns about the ability of the police to catch the culprits. Citizens are now worried about their safety and the security of their property, as these thieves continue to operate with impunity.
