Pune witnessed a thought-provoking theatre drama titled Men Will Not Be Men, presented by the Save Indian Family Foundation (SIFF) in collaboration with Infinity Studio. Premiering on 15th March 2025, the play shed light on the challenges faced by men in modern society, sparking important conversations about men’s mental health and social issues.
SIFF, a non-profit organization dedicated to men’s rights and mental health, has been actively working towards amplifying the voices of men dealing with emotional and societal struggles. Through initiatives like Men Will Not Be Men, SIFF continues to strive towards creating an empathetic and inclusive society.
Directed by Akshay Bhandwalkar, the play delved into the emotional and societal burdens that men often carry. Bhandwalkar emphasized that the play seeks to humanize men and bring attention to their overlooked emotions and struggles, without advocating for ‘masculism’ or opposing ‘feminism.’
The drama explored key themes such as escalating demands in marriage proposals, evolving relationship dynamics, emotional vulnerabilities, legal exploitation, and male mental health issues. It highlighted the impact of false legal accusations and the lack of support systems for men, leading to rising suicide rates.
Leaders from SIFF stressed the need for change and government-backed initiatives to promote emotional well-being and support for men. Shocking statistics revealed that married men have a higher suicide rate compared to married women, signaling a need for urgent action.
SIFF has outlined five key demands for the government and judiciary, including establishing mental health support systems, reforming marriage-related laws, launching suicide prevention efforts, recognizing men’s emotional well-being, and providing support for modern relationship challenges.
Founded in 2005, SIFF is India’s largest men’s rights NGO, advocating for judicial and police reforms, and changes in laws related to dowry, alimony, and child custody. Productions like Men Will Not Be Men play a crucial role in challenging societal norms and calling for justice and empathy for men in India.
