So, big news for all the students and parents out there – the government has given the green light for 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas to be set up all over India! And not just that, there’s also a plan to expand KV Shivamogga in Karnataka to accommodate more students.
The total cost for this project is a whopping ₹5,872.08 crore, to be spent over the next eight years. This includes money for both building and running the schools. Currently, there are already 1,256 Kendriya Vidyalayas in operation, with branches even in international locations like Moscow, Kathmandu, and Tehran. These schools together cater to around 13.56 lakh students, and the new KVs will add another 82,560 students to the mix.
Each full-fledged KV can handle about 960 students and employs 63 staff members. So, with the new schools and the expansion at Shivamogga, we’re looking at a total of 5,388 new permanent jobs being created. Not to mention the additional employment opportunities for construction workers and others involved in setting up the schools.
For those who don’t know, Kendriya Vidyalayas were started back in 1962 to provide top-notch education to the children of Central Government employees, including those in Defence and Paramilitary forces. They’ve always been known for their high standards of education, modern facilities, and great results in CBSE exams.
In line with the National Education Policy 2020, most KVs have been designated as PM Shri Schools, setting an example for other institutions to follow. With the demand for admissions increasing every year, this expansion is a clear sign of the government’s dedication to making sure every child gets a chance at a quality education. Cheers to that!
