The suspects, identified as Rohit Banjara, Jitendra Rawal, Harsh Patel, Aditya Patel, and Vanraj Sahil, were apprehended in Hyderabad. The CBI has launched a full-blown investigation into the case and the accused have already made their appearance in a Pune court.
Reports suggest that the CBI carried out simultaneous raids in Hyderabad, Varanasi, Visakhapatnam, and Ahmedabad in addition to Pune. The agency has seized a haul of evidence including 50 mobile phones, 38 computers, and various documents from the fake call centers.
These fraudulent operations were being run under the guise of legitimate businesses such as MSVC Informatics Pvt Ltd, Atria Global Services Pvt Ltd, and Viages Solutions. The scammers reportedly duped unsuspecting foreign nationals by using remote access software to swindle them out of money.
In one instance, the accused managed to con two individuals out of a whopping $20,000 by tricking them into purchasing international gift cards. It’s a stark reminder of the dangers posed by these illegal call centers and the importance of staying vigilant against such scams.
