Hey there Pune folks! Exciting news coming your way from the Pune Division of Central Railway. They recently conducted a joint mock drill with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to test their alertness and response time during major accidents. The drill took place at Shelarwadi on 20th December 2024.

Picture this: a scenario where a coach derails and catches fire, with passengers trapped inside. The drill kicked off with the coach set on fire, and the field staff immediately alerted the control of Pune Division at 09.00 hrs. A message was quickly sent out to the NDRF team, ambulance services, fire brigade, and the Accident Relief Train (ART) of Railways.

The NDRF team arrived on site at 10.00 hrs and sprang into action, working alongside the civil defence and fire brigade. The City Police also joined in at 10.05 hrs, with the Accident Relief Medical Equipment (ARME) arriving shortly after at 10.09 hrs.

A total of 21 passengers were rescued between 10.15 hrs to 11.45 hrs, with NDRF and ART teams cutting the roof of the coach to free trapped individuals. Railway Protection Force (RPF) and fire brigade personnel worked together to evacuate passengers and extinguish the fire.

By 11.45 hrs, all passengers were safely evacuated, given first aid, and had their health checked by railway doctors. The successful coordination among various agencies highlighted the railway’s commitment to passenger safety and emergency preparedness.

Indu Rani Dubey Pune, along with other railway officials, was present at the mock drill site to oversee the operation. The drill showcased the Pune Division’s dedication to zero accidents and quick response in crisis situations. Kudos to all involved for their swift and efficient handling of the mock emergency! Stay tuned for more updates on railway safety measures in Pune.
