Kothrud, 23rd November 2024: The ongoing Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections have seen Maharashtra’s Minister of Higher and Technical Education, Chandrakant Patil, comfortably leading from the Kothrud assembly constituency. Early trends suggest that Mahayuti is dominating in the polls. When asked about the possibility of former ally Uddhav Thackeray joining Mahayuti, specifically the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Patil expressed a welcoming attitude.
In an interview with ABP Majha, Patil mentioned that in the 2019 elections, Uddhav Thackeray had gone against them, causing harm not only to Maharashtra but also on a personal level. However, Patil stated that if Thackeray decides to join them, the final decision would be taken by the high command at the Centre. He added, “A unified Shiv Sena alongside us will drive development.”
During the previous Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections in 2019, Shiv Sena and BJP had contested together and secured a majority. However, disagreements over the Chief Minister’s position led to a split. Shiv Sena then joined the Mahavikas Aghadi, comprising the Indian National Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party, and Uddhav Thackeray became the Chief Minister.
In recent years, there have been shifts in alliances with Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar joining the BJP and Mahayuti government, respectively. Despite past tensions, Patil remains optimistic about Shiv Sena’s return, stating that a unified front would benefit Maharashtra’s development.
As the election results continue to unfold, it will be interesting to see how the political landscape in Maharashtra evolves and whether alliances will be reshaped for the betterment of the state.
