Hey folks! Today in Pune, the Finance Minister of Chattisgarh, O. P. Choudhary, gave a thought-provoking speech at the Pune Public Policy Festival (PPPF). He emphasized the importance of taking a futuristic approach to financial planning, both on a personal and state level. Choudhary highlighted the need to look beyond just a 5-year term and consider the long-term financial needs of the state.

During his address, Choudhary also discussed the effectiveness of welfare schemes, particularly when the money is directed towards women. He cautioned against unrealistic promises, citing the example of a scheme that would give every woman in India Rs.8000 per month, which would be financially unfeasible given the country’s budget constraints.

The Finance Minister also praised the GST reform as a significant step in reducing multiple taxation and questioned the opposition’s criticism of the reform. He urged state governments to focus on tax reforms and increasing capital expenditure to drive state development.

Choudhary commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts in reviving the economy post-pandemic, including initiatives like ‘Aapada Me Avsar’ and the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme to boost the manufacturing sector.

Overall, the second edition of the Pune Public Policy Festival promises to be an insightful event, with experts discussing various aspects of economics and public policy making. Stay tuned for more updates from the festival!
