Pune witnessed a momentous event on 29th September 2024, as Chief Minister Eknath Shinde highlighted the state government’s efforts in alleviating traffic congestion in the city during the inauguration of the District Court to Swargate metro station route. The virtual ceremony, graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, also marked the groundbreaking for the southern extension of the metro line to Katraj, as well as the inauguration of key projects like the Solapur airport and the Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule’s first girls’ school memorial in Bhidewada.
Shinde emphasized the importance of expanding the metro network to accommodate Pune’s growing IT sector, industries, and educational institutions, stating that transportation infrastructure needs to keep pace with the city’s development. Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, along with Union Minister of State for Aviation Muralidhar Mohol, also attended the event, underscoring the government’s commitment to boosting overall development in Maharashtra.
Fadnavis praised the progress on the Pune Metro project, noting that it has been the fastest in the country since its inception in 2014. He highlighted Pune’s economic significance, citing ongoing projects worth ₹1 lakh crore and the city’s potential as a hub for industry and technology.
Ajit Pawar lauded the completion of the Swargate metro station, acknowledging the current traffic challenges while emphasizing the long-term benefits of the metro project. The event also shed light on the memorial for Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule in Bhidewada, with the state government making efforts to acquire the necessary land for the project.
