Hey there, folks! Today we’re talking about the Church of God World Mission Society’s awesome ‘Forest of Hope’ and ‘Make Pune Happy and Green’ campaigns in Pune, Maharashtra. Led by General Chairman Pastor Kim Joo-chul, this event brought together around 70 participants, including church members, their families, and neighbors.

Taking place on June 30, 2024, this campaign was all about celebrating ‘Environment Day’ on June 5 and fighting against desertification. The Church of God is on a mission to plant trees and combat global warming, with similar activities happening in countries like the United States, Argentina, Peru, Mongolia, and South Africa.

During the event, participants kicked things off with an opening ceremony that emphasized the importance of green spaces in reducing carbon dioxide. The ‘Forest of Hope’ campaign aims to protect forests and fight desertification, a big issue that’s impacting our planet.

After a joint declaration from participants of all ages, volunteers got to work planting around 120 trees in the Ramtekdi MIDC area. The ASEZ STAR student volunteer group also pitched in by cleaning up the area and collecting about 200 kg of household waste.

Local officials Nisar Mujawar, Rahul Kakade, and Babu Adagale from the Wanwadi Ramtekdi Ward Office showed up to show their support and gratitude for the volunteers’ efforts. They commended the group for their work to save the earth and protect the environment.

The event also included a panel exhibition to raise awareness about the seriousness of desertification. Panelist Mr. Simplex stressed the consequences of desertification, like water shortages and food scarcity, and encouraged everyone to join the global effort to protect the ecosystem.

The Church of God has a long history of environmental and social service activities in India, including cleanups, blood donation drives, and support for social welfare facilities. Their volunteer groups have been active during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing medical supplies and support to healthcare workers and government officials.

Founded in Korea in 1964, the Church of God now operates in over 7,500 locations across 175 countries, with 3.7 million believers. Their dedication to serving others has earned them over 4,600 awards, including prestigious honors like the U.S. Presidential Volunteer Service Award. Keep up the great work, Church of God!
