Kondhwa, 8th March 2025: The issue of illegal tree cutting in Pune has caught the attention of city resident Jaymala Dhankikar, who recently took a stand by writing a letter to the Maharashtra Chief Minister. In her plea, she urged immediate action to be taken against the alleged “tree mafia” and requested the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to conduct a thorough audit of roadside trees, with a focus on the NIBM Annexe area.

In a conversation with Punekar News, Dhankikar stressed the importance of accountability in protecting Pune’s green cover. She emphasized the need for a systematic audit of all roadside trees and proposed a detailed action plan for the PMC, which includes counting and geo-tagging each tree for better monitoring, creating a detailed tree map, and increasing vigilance to prevent unauthorized tree felling.

Identifying specific areas that require urgent attention, Dhankikar highlighted the Anandvan Gate to Raheja Premiere stretch and the Dorabjee Restaurant to Kingston Atlantis area as priority locations for auditing. She believes that swift action by authorities can help prevent further destruction of trees and preserve Pune’s environment.

The letter calls for the PMC to expedite the auditing process and ensure strict enforcement of environmental laws. As of now, there has been no official response from the Chief Minister’s Office or the PMC on the matter. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
