Chakan, 16th January 2025: A chaotic road incident on the Chakan-Shikrapur Road in Pune District has left a minor girl and a woman seriously injured. The incident involved a container truck colliding with 7-8 vehicles as the driver attempted to evade law enforcement. The driver, identified as Aquib Khan from Haryana, was reportedly drunk and was severely beaten by the public when he was finally stopped. The injured individuals are now receiving treatment at a private hospital, while the driver has been transferred to Sassoon General Hospital for further medical evaluation. The Pimpri Chinchwad Police have registered a case against the driver as investigations continue to unfold.
The incident unfolded around 12:30 PM when the container truck with registration number HR HV 2283 collided with a two-wheeler carrying two women and an 11-year-old girl. The girl suffered severe injuries when the truck’s wheel ran over her leg, while the women were also injured upon impact. Despite the collisions, the truck continued its reckless driving towards Shikrapur, prompting a dramatic police chase.
The police made several attempts to stop the truck, but the driver managed to evade capture each time. In one instance, the truck collided with a police vehicle, injuring a Traffic Warden inside. The truck was finally intercepted in Wajewadi by the Shikrapur Police Station with the help of a dumper. However, before the police could reach the driver, a large mob caught up with him and proceeded to beat him severely.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Dr. Shivaji Pawar confirmed that the truck had collided with at least seven vehicles before being apprehended, with investigations ongoing to determine the full extent of the damage. Eyewitnesses reported that the driver appeared to be intoxicated. The driver is currently stable but has sustained serious injuries.
The woman and the 11-year-old girl are also receiving treatment at a private hospital and are said to be out of danger. The traffic warden who was injured during the chase is now stable as well. The police have managed to clear the road efficiently after the driver was detained, and further investigation into the incident is underway to determine the driver’s level of intoxication.
