Residents of Nyati Elysia in Kharadi are in a state of panic as contaminated water from a sewage treatment plant has been supplied to their homes, leading to widespread health issues. Nearly 80% of residents have reported waterborne illnesses over the past three months, prompting calls for immediate action from authorities.

The water supplied by M/S Shreeram Water Supply, sourced from a sewage treatment plant, has caused residents to suffer from stomach infections, diarrhea, and fever. Despite the termination of the contract with the supplier, they continued to deliver contaminated water, forcing residents to call the police to restore the supply from a new vendor.

A survey conducted within the society revealed the extent of the health crisis, with residents expressing concerns about the long-term implications of consuming water with high levels of contamination. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken action against the violators and is working on implementing regulations to monitor the use of STP water for domestic purposes.

Residents have lodged a complaint with the Kharadi Housing Society Welfare Association (KSHWA) to hold the responsible vendor accountable and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. They are also urging authorities to investigate if other societies in the area are receiving contaminated supplies.

The incident highlights the urgent need for better regulation of private water suppliers in Pune, with residents demanding faster implementation of additional water lines and stricter oversight. The health and safety of residents are non-negotiable, and steps must be taken to ensure such incidents are not repeated.
