In a shocking turn of events, the ongoing probe into the Pune Porsche crash has uncovered alleged corrupt practices between officials and bars and pubs in the city. The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has accused the State Excise Department of collecting huge bribes, amounting to Rs 70-80 lakh per month, from various establishments to turn a blind eye to illegal activities.
Congress MLA Ravindra Dhangekar and Shiv Sena(UBT) Deputy Leader Sushma Andhare led a protest march to the State Excise Department Superintendent’s office, displaying evidence of the alleged bribery. They presented a ‘black list’ of bars and pubs along with the names of officials involved in the scandal.
Despite vehement denials from State Excise Department Superintendent Charansing B. Rajput, the accusations continue to swirl. The protest leaders claimed to have videos and other evidence of officials accepting bribes through online apps. They called out the government for threatening legal action against those who expose corruption.
The State Excise Department has cracked down on several bars and pubs in the wake of the Porsche accident, sealing 54 establishments and filing 108 cases. However, the protest leaders questioned why certain bars were allowed to operate illegally till 4 a.m. and why drugs were being seized regularly in Pune.
The accusations have sparked a war of words between the government and opposition leaders, with calls for accountability and transparency in the handling of these issues. The bar owners and staff have also joined the fray, protesting against being unfairly targeted for actions outside their control.
As the investigation unfolds, the people of Pune are left wondering about the extent of corruption in their city and who will ultimately be held accountable for these alleged misdeeds.
