Cyber thieves in Pune are on the prowl, targeting unsuspecting citizens and leaving a trail of financial devastation in their wake. In a recent string of incidents, four individuals have fallen victim to these deceptive tactics, resulting in a total loss of Rs 75 lakh. The police are hot on the trail of the culprits, with investigations currently underway.
One young man from Kothrud found himself out Rs 25 lakh and one thousand rupees after falling for an online stock market investment scheme. The fraudsters, posing as representatives from a company called “Finvest,” promised lucrative returns on investments. The victim, enticed by the promise of easy money, transferred funds into the thieves’ bank account multiple times. Despite receiving small refunds initially, the victim soon realized he had been duped when the scammers disappeared without a trace. The Kothrud police station is now handling the case, with Crime Branch Police Inspector Vikram Singh Kadam leading the investigation.
Meanwhile, a woman from Vishrantwadi was swindled out of a whopping Rs 42 lakh 12 thousand after being offered a work-from-home opportunity. Contacted via text message, the woman was led to believe that she could earn a substantial income by working online from the comfort of her own home. After making several payments into a bank account, the woman realized she had been scammed when the promised returns never materialized. The Vishrantwadi police are on the case, with Police Inspector Yuvraj Hande of the Crime Branch spearheading the investigation.
Over in Bibvewadi, another victim fell prey to cyber thieves, losing Rs 6 lakh 37 thousand under the guise of an online task. The local police have filed a case, with Senior Police Inspector Shankar Salunkhe leading the investigation to track down the culprits.
In a separate incident, a woman from Bibvewadi was conned out of Rs 3 lakh 5 thousand after receiving a threatening call from scammers claiming to have found drugs in a package addressed to her. Fearing legal repercussions, the woman transferred the money as instructed, only to realize she had been deceived. The Bibvewadi police are now investigating the case, with Police Inspector Manoj Kumar Londhe of the Crime Branch at the helm.
