Cyclone Fengal has left its mark on Maharashtra, with significant atmospheric changes reported in the western part of the state. According to independent forecasters, the remnants of the cyclone have brought in moist southeasterly winds, replacing the usual dry northeasterlies. This has resulted in warmer nights and higher humidity levels in the region, causing a shift in the weather pattern.
In Pune, residents experienced light rain in the middle of the night, adding to the unusual weather conditions. Other parts of Maharashtra have also reported anomalies in their minimum temperatures:
– Solapur saw a minimum temperature of 23.6°C, which is 7.1° above normal.
– Ahilyanagar recorded 22.4°C, a significant 10° higher than the average.
– Sangli reported a minimum temperature of 23°C, surpassing the normal by 7.3°.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed that a low-pressure area over coastal Karnataka and the east-central Arabian Sea is moving west-northwest. This system is bringing moisture-laden winds into the region, leading to a further rise in temperatures.
Looking ahead, IMD forecasts similar weather conditions in the coming days as the system continues to impact western Maharashtra. Minimum temperatures in Maharashtra and Gujarat are expected to range between 15-20°C, with some regions experiencing temperatures that are 5° or more above normal. Residents of Pune are advised to prepare for warm, humid conditions with sporadic rain as the city transitions into a monsoon-like winter. Experts believe that significant cooling may only return once the current system dissipates. Stay tuned for more updates on the evolving weather situation in the region.
