The Omkareshwar Temple in Pune, a historic Shiva shrine dating back to the Peshwa era, recently underwent a restoration project led by a group of devoted volunteers. The project focused on restoring the discolored statue of Lord Nandi, a beloved deity at the temple, as an act of “Seva” or service.

Padmini Panse, founder of MIRA and owner of Café Mhuzo in Goa, spearheaded the initiative along with her students. The idea came to fruition after a visit to the temple where they noticed the statue in need of attention. With support from the Omkareshwar Devsthan Trust and other volunteers, the team worked tirelessly to scrub, clean, and repaint the statue, which was carved from black stone.

The restoration effort garnered widespread support, with nearly a hundred people coming together to help. Visitors to the temple, including tourists from abroad, also pitched in to assist with the project. The successful completion of the restoration was celebrated with a special Sandhya Aarti on 28th October, symbolizing the collective effort and dedication of all involved.

Padmini Panse emphasized the importance of serving others and honoring the legacy of ancestors through acts of kindness and service. She encouraged the younger generation to embrace the spirit of Seva and contribute to preserving heritage and traditions for the future. The project serves as a reminder of the power of community and the impact of small acts of kindness in making the world a better place.
