It’s a sad reality that cases of child and minor abuse are on the rise in Pune, with a staggering 4,000 reported cases. And to make matters worse, there’s only one judge available to handle these cases in the city. The retirement of the second judge last April has left a gaping hole in the system, as pointed out by Santosh Khamkar, president of the Pune Bar Association.

But it’s not just Pune facing this issue. The entire state is struggling with backlogs in fast-track and POCSO courts. High-profile cases like the Badlapur incident, Naina Pujari, and Jyoti Kumari Chaudhary murders have yet to see justice served. It’s no wonder that the public’s faith in the justice system is waning.

Families of victims are left in limbo, waiting for years for closure and justice. This delay only adds to their trauma and suffering. The completion of new court facilities for POCSO cases is crucial to expedite the process and bring some relief to these families.

It’s time for action to be taken to address these issues and ensure that justice is served swiftly and effectively. Only then can we hope to prevent future incidents and restore faith in the justice system.
