Hey Pune, good news! The number of dengue and chikungunya cases in the city has dropped significantly this November. After a spike in cases starting in July, the Health Department of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has reported only 58 suspected cases of dengue this month, with no cases of chikungunya.
Throughout the year, Pune has seen a total of 4,422 dengue cases, with 357 confirmed diagnoses. The number of cases began to rise in July, peaked in August and September, and started to decline in October and November. This trend is typically seen as the monsoon season comes to an end and mosquito breeding decreases.
Chikungunya cases also saw a similar pattern, with a total of 448 cases reported this year. The numbers surged from July onwards but have now dropped to zero cases in November. The PMC Health Department has been proactive in combating mosquito-borne diseases by implementing prevention measures such as spraying insecticides and eliminating mosquito breeding sites.
In response to the rise in cases, PMC issued notices to property owners and collected fines for failing to address mosquito breeding sites. These efforts have contributed to the decrease in cases seen this month. Stay vigilant and continue to take precautions to prevent mosquito-borne diseases in Pune.
