Hey there, Pune residents! It’s time to talk about some important news that’s been making headlines in our city lately. The number of mosquito-borne diseases, specifically dengue and chikungunya, is on the rise in Pune. In August alone, there were a whopping 1,150 suspected cases of dengue, with 82 confirmed cases. That’s a big jump from previous months, with only 34 cases in July.

And it’s not just dengue that’s causing concern – chikungunya cases have also been on the rise. This month, there have been 52 reported cases, compared to just 24 in July. Symptoms of these diseases can be pretty nasty, including fever, joint pain, and body rash. So it’s important to take precautions to prevent mosquito breeding.

Dr. Rajesh Dighe, an Assistant Health Officer at PMC, has some important advice for us. He says that there’s no specific treatment for chikungunya, so it’s all about managing the symptoms. This includes painkillers and plenty of rest. And most importantly, make sure the sick person isn’t getting bitten by mosquitoes to prevent the disease from spreading.

So, how can we prevent mosquito breeding in our city? It’s simple – eliminate standing water where mosquitoes lay eggs, regularly clean gutters, use larvicides, and keep trash properly disposed of. Also, don’t forget to use mosquito repellents and keep your yard well-trimmed to reduce the risk of breeding.

Let’s all do our part to keep Pune safe and mosquito-free! Stay healthy, everyone.
