With the onset of monsoon in Pune, cases of dengue have been on the rise in the city. A recent outbreak in Sadaanand Nagar in Mangalwar Peth has led to the discovery of 20 suspected patients of the disease. The Pune Municipal Corporation’s Health Department has swiftly taken action by implementing prohibitive measures in the area.
Since June 20, a total of 20 dengue patients have been identified, with nine cases confirmed. Dr. Suryakant Devkar, Assistant Health Officer at PMC, stated, “We have admitted the patients to Kamala Nehru Hospital and are conducting a thorough survey in the area. Urgent health check-ups are being carried out for individuals displaying dengue-like symptoms.”
This month alone, 63 cases of dengue have been reported in Pune, with 21 cases detected just this week. In addition, there have been nine cases of chikungunya in the city this year. The PMC has taken a strict stance by issuing notices to 560 residential and commercial properties for failing to eliminate mosquito-breeding sites, resulting in fines totaling Rs 1.06 lakh.
Dr. Devkar mentioned, “Houses in Sadaanand Nagar were inspected, revealing contaminated water in building storage tanks. Notices have been issued to address this issue and preventive measures have been taken.” The health department continues to urge citizens to maintain cleanliness and take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of dengue.
