Hey there, Pimpri folks! It looks like the development work in our city hasn’t been moving as quickly as we would hope, despite the Municipal Commissioner having all the power to make decisions. According to recent expenditure statistics, out of the Rs 1,422.32 crore earmarked for capital expenditure in the current Civic Budget of 2024-25, only Rs 526.63 crore has been spent in the past nine months. That means a whopping Rs 895.26 crore is still sitting there unspent.
The Administrator’s rule, with the Municipal Commissioner at the helm, began in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation back in March 2022. Capital expenditure is a big deal, covering everything from roads and bridges to schools and hospitals. It’s the second largest expense after staff salaries, so it’s crucial that the money is put to good use.
While the budget allocated for this year is substantial, there seems to be a delay in getting the work done. The City Engineer, Makarand Nikam, explained that the slow progress could be attributed to the distractions of the recent elections. But fear not, Pimpri residents, as there’s still hope for some big projects to kick off in the next three months.
So, let’s keep an eye on how our city progresses in the coming months. With any luck, we’ll see that unspent money put to good use before the end of the financial year. Stay tuned for more updates on the development front!
