The Pune city was buzzing with excitement yesterday as the festivities of Gopal-Ashtami and Dahi Handi took center stage. Among the various events held in the city, the Dharmaveer Anand Dighe Dahi Handi at Shri Ram Chowk in Hadapsar stole the show. Organized by Shiv Sena city chief Pramod Nana Bhangire, this Dahi Handi is known for its generous cash prizes and massive turnout.

The Dharmaveer Anand Dighe Dahi Handi has earned a reputation in Pune for offering a grand prize of over Rs 7 lakh and attracting a large audience, even without any celebrity appearances. The event’s success can be attributed to the captivating Dhol Pathak performances and top-notch Dolby sound system that create a vibrant and festive atmosphere.

This year, the Govinda team from Annabhau Sathe Tarun Seva Mandal, Mumbai, clinched the top prize of Rs 7,17,171 by breaking the Dahi Handi. The moment was accompanied by devotional songs dedicated to Lord Krishna, creating a spiritual ambiance that enveloped the crowd.

The event was graced by prominent personalities such as Dr. Neelam Gorhe, Minister Chandrakant Dada Patil, MLA Yogesh Tilekar, and MLA Chetan Tupe. Additionally, in a heartwarming gesture of support, financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh each was extended to two families who had suffered tragic losses in the recent floods.

Priyanka Kumbhar, who lost her husband to the July floods, and Geeta Patil, whose husband was fatally injured by a falling tree, had not received any government aid until now. In a compassionate move, the Eknath Shinde Foundation and Shiv Sena city chief Pramod Nana Bhangire stepped in to provide much-needed assistance to these families, in memory of the late Anand Dighe Saheb.
