The Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) in Pune has taken a significant step towards enhancing India’s cyber defense capabilities by organizing a groundbreaking “Training Program for Cyber Commandos.” This initiative comes in response to the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre’s recent advisory to establish specialized cyber commando wings within police forces nationwide.

The six-month training program kicked off on November 5, 2024, at DIAT’s Takshashila Auditorium in Pune. The event was graced by Dr. B.H.V.S. Narayana Murthy, Vice Chancellor of DIAT, Shri Rajesh Kumar, CEO of I4C, Ministry of Home Affairs, and Dr. G. Athithan (Retd.), Distinguished Scientist of DRDO.

The program aims to equip officials from central and state police forces with the necessary skills to combat cyber threats effectively. Participants will undergo hands-on training in various cybersecurity aspects, enabling them to handle complex threats and implement robust defense mechanisms across different sectors.

Dr. B.H.V.S. Narayana Murthy expressed his enthusiasm for the program and promised an intensive and versatile training experience. He also commended Dr. Manisha Nene and her team for their efforts in conducting this vital program initiated by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Dr. G. Athithan highlighted the importance of cybersecurity in national security and outlined the roles for which participants would be trained. Meanwhile, Rajesh Kumar shed light on the origins of the training program and I4C’s role in organizing such initiatives for law enforcement agencies. The first batch of training for Cyber Commandos is simultaneously taking place in nine institutes across India.
