Pune, a hub for IT companies, is currently facing controversy over the number of firms leaving the Hinjawadi IT Park. The Hinjawadi Industries Association claims that 37 companies have left the park in the past decade, sparking a political uproar. However, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has refuted this claim and has asked for a list of the companies in question.

According to sources within the MIDC, there is a lack of space for new companies in the IT Park, leading to rejections of applications from new firms. While some companies have indeed shut down due to financial difficulties, others have simply leased out their premises and moved to other locations for cheaper office space.

The MIDC has written a letter to the Industries Association demanding the list of the 37 companies that have supposedly left the IT Park. However, the association has refused to provide this information, leading to further confusion on the matter.

The infrastructure in the Hinjawadi IT Park, which has been operational for 25 years, is also facing challenges. Basic amenities such as roads, water, electricity, and solid waste management are falling short, causing daily traffic jams and difficulties for the 139 IT companies and over 2,00,000 employees working in the park.

In response to these developments, Lt Col Yogesh Joshi (Retd), Secretary of the Hinjawadi Industries Association, stated that while member companies have left the IT Park, they are unable to disclose their names. Meanwhile, Archana Pathare, Regional Officer of the MIDC, reiterated that there is no record of companies leaving the park in recent years and that they are seeking clarification from the Industries Association.

As the situation continues to unfold, a high-level meeting of the State Government machinery is expected to be held to address the issues facing the Hinjawadi IT Park. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
