Hey there, Pune folks! It’s been quite a wet and wild time in our city lately, with heavy rains causing chaos and confusion on the streets. If you’ve been out and about, you’ve probably noticed that the roads are looking more like rivers these days, thanks to all that water accumulation.

But it’s not just the water causing problems – the aftermath of the downpours has left roads covered in gravel, soil, and sand, making it a nightmare for bikers trying to navigate through the mess. And let’s not forget about the dust that’s clouding up visibility for drivers, making it even more dangerous out there.

You’d think that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) would have everything under control, right? Well, not quite. It seems like there’s a bit of a spat going on between the Ward Offices and the Drainage Department, which is slowing down the road cleanup process.

PMC has a good chunk of change set aside every year for road cleaning, but it looks like the contractors and workers responsible for the job are having a tough time getting things back in order. The Drainage Department is supposed to handle the gutters and drains, while another contractor is supposed to deal with all the trash, soil, and gravel.

The heavy rains on June 4th really did a number on the roads, washing away debris and causing all sorts of havoc. And when more rain hit on June 8th, things just got worse. Buildings and shops were flooded, drains were clogged, and the city’s response efforts were put to the test.

Since Sunday morning, PMC has been working hard to repair chambers, clear away trash, pump out waterlogged areas, and get rid of sludge. They’ve got big machines for road cleaning, but getting rid of all that gravel and soil is proving to be a challenge. And that’s causing more dust issues and accidents for bikers, which is not helping the traffic situation at all.

It seems like the Ward Office cleaning staff are refusing to deal with the soil and gravel, saying it’s the contractor’s job. But the drainage cleaning contractors are saying they only need to focus on the chambers. And while they’re pointing fingers at each other, us Pune residents are the ones suffering.

Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kadam from the Solid Waste Management Department of PMC says they’ve told the ward offices to clean up the mess quickly. But from the looks of things, the dust and trash are still piling up in areas like Khadki, Range Hills, Chatushringi Chowk, and more. It’s a messy situation, to say the least.

So, if you’re heading out on the roads in Pune anytime soon, be sure to watch out for the gravel, garbage, and dust that’s cluttering up the streets. And let’s hope that the PMC and the contractors can get their act together soon to clean up this mess. Stay safe out there, Pune!
