In a shocking turn of events in Wadgaon Sheri, former Deputy Mayor Dr. Siddharth Dhende has resigned from the Republican Party of India – Athawale (RPI-A) ahead of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections. Dr. Dhende cited mistreatment of the RPI-A within the Mahayuti alliance as the reason for his resignation. He accused the Mahayuti of sidelining the RPI and claimed that the BJP had deceived them during election negotiations.
Dr. Dhende took a bold stance by publicly declaring that he would not vote for the Mahayuti in the upcoming elections. He held an oath-taking ceremony in front of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s statue in the Pune Railway Station area, where he expressed his frustration over the struggles faced by Ambedkarite communities. Despite holding an independent election symbol, the RPI has reportedly not been allocated any seats by the Mahayuti for the upcoming elections.
Criticism was also directed towards Union Minister of State Ramdas Athawale, who is a part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), of which the Mahayuti is a member. Dr. Dhende accused Athawale of being passive and not advocating for the RPI within the alliance. He stated that his decision to resign was made after consulting with party workers and office-bearers, reflecting the discontent among activists within the RPI-A.
The resignation of Dr. Siddharth Dhende is expected to have a significant impact on the Mahayuti’s standing in Wadgaon Sheri, as he was a prominent figure within the party. The upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections are now poised to be even more contentious with this latest development.
