Hey Pune peeps! Did you know that former Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe recently spoke about the legacy of Atal Bihari Vajpayee at a lecture in the city? Yep, he talked about how Vajpayee used India’s cultural and democratic values to boost the nation’s global image as a soft power. The event took place at Sumant Moolgaokar Auditorium on November 8, and was chaired by Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar, Pro Chancellor of Symbiosis International University.
Dr. Sahasrabuddhe praised Vajpayee for his leadership qualities and his focus on good neighborliness in foreign policy. He also highlighted Vajpayee’s commitment to secularism and his efforts to promote Hindi abroad. The former PM was a big believer in India’s diverse heritage and the importance of respecting all religions.
Another interesting point made was Vajpayee’s view on the environment. He believed in living in harmony with nature, rather than conquering it. This led to the creation of buffer zones around national parks and wildlife sanctuaries.
The lecture ended with Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar, President of PIC, praising Dr. Sahasrabuddhe for his use of the term “soumya sampada” to describe India’s soft power. The event also included a lively Q&A session.
It’s great to see discussions about such important topics taking place in our city. Stay tuned for more updates on events like these happening in Pune!
