Hey there, folks! Big news coming out of Pune today as the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Pune unit has busted a major gold smuggling operation. They managed to seize a whopping 5,918 grams of gold worth a staggering ₹4.47 crore, along with ₹22 lakh in cash suspected to be the proceeds of smuggling.
The operation was a result of some top-notch intelligence work, which led the DRI officers to intercept a suspected carrier at the Talegaon toll plaza. Upon searching the carrier, they found 16 egg-shaped capsules of gold in paste form hidden in two pouches.
Following this breakthrough, the authorities were able to nab the gold supplier, his accomplice, and the receiver in Mumbai and Pune. All of them confessed to being part of an organized gold smuggling syndicate.
The seized gold and cash have been confiscated under the Customs Act, 1962, and the arrested individuals are facing charges under the same act. This successful operation is believed to have dismantled a well-organized smuggling ring that was operating across state borders.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover more details about the network involved in this illegal activity. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story!
