So, apparently, the officers of DRI Pune unit recently busted some individuals in Akot, Akola district, who were trying to trade leopard skin. Yep, you heard that right – leopard skin! And guess what? It’s totally illegal under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

After getting a tip-off, the officers kept a close eye on these guys and managed to nab them after a thrilling chase in the forest area of Akot. Three people were caught – two carriers and one mediator. And what did they find in their possession? A whopping 80.5 inches x 25 inches leopard skin! That’s a big no-no, folks.

Leopards are protected under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, and trading, selling, buying, or even just having their skin is a big offense. The officers didn’t waste any time and seized the illegal specimen right away. They handed over the skin and the three culprits to the District Forest Division in Akola for further investigation.
