So, here’s the scoop on what went down in Pune recently: An Assistant Police Sub-Inspector got himself into some serious trouble when he was found to be drunk and involved in an accident that left a woman seriously injured. Yikes.

The incident took place near the Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi, when a police van driven by the ASI hit a woman riding a two-wheeler. The woman, identified as Shakuntala Pandit Shelke, was rushed to a private hospital for treatment.

Turns out, the suspended ASI goes by the name of Nagesh Bhalerao and is stationed at the Hinjawadi Police Station. On the day of the accident, he was not even supposed to be on duty at the scene of the incident as he had not been assigned to the security detail for the vote counting taking place in the Maval Lok Sabha constituency.

Eyewitnesses reported that Bhalerao was sitting in the van when his foot accidentally hit the accelerator, leading to the collision with the two-wheeler and other parked vehicles. Senior police officials at the scene suspected that he was under the influence of alcohol, which was later confirmed by a medical test.

In response to the findings, Sr PI Kanhaiya Thorat wasted no time in suspending Bhalerao from his duties. The repercussions of his actions are sure to be felt for a long time to come. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
