Pune residents can look forward to improved public transport accessibility with the proposed second additional Metro station along the Swargate-Katraj route. The new station, suggested for the Sahakarnagar-Bibvewadi area, aims to benefit the densely populated neighborhoods in the vicinity.
Initially, the Swargate-Katraj Metro route included three stations in its detailed project report: Market Yard, Padmavati, and Katraj. However, recent developments have added two proposed stations – Balajinagar and Sahakarnagar-Bibvewadi, indicating a broader reach for the Metro system.
With approvals from both the state and central governments, the Swargate-Katraj Metro extension is making progress. Maha Metro is gearing up for tunnel construction, and all stations on this route, including the proposed additions, will be underground to minimize surface disruptions.
Feasibility studies are underway for the additional stations, ensuring that technical and financial viability is assessed before finalizing the project plan. Furthermore, efforts are being made to enhance multi-modal integration, with plans to connect Metro stations to bus terminals and improve coordination between different modes of transport.
In addition to the Swargate-Katraj line, other Metro projects in Pune are in the pipeline, including the Vanaz-Chandni Chowk and Ramwadi-Wagholi lines. These proposals are awaiting approval, and the state government is hopeful for a positive outcome.
The proposal for additional Metro stations highlights the city’s commitment to improving public transport accessibility and connectivity. With efforts to integrate Metro services with other modes of transport, Pune is on track to create a more efficient and connected urban transit system, ultimately benefiting residents with reduced commute times and improved last-mile connectivity.
