The Poona Keraleeya Samaj (PKS) is gearing up to mark its 79th year with a grand Onam festival, set to bring the community together for a festive and joyous occasion. The celebrations, which began on September 5, will reach their peak on September 22 at the Alpa Bachat Bhavan in Pune.

The highlight of the day will be the much-anticipated Pookalam competition, where teams will showcase their creativity by designing intricate and colorful flower patterns, a traditional art form synonymous with Onam. The competition will kick off at 8:00 a.m. at the Alpa Bachat Bhavan.

Following the Pookalam competition, the opening ceremony will commence at 10:30 a.m., with Padmashree Aswathi Thirunal Gowri Lakshmi Bayi gracing the event as the special guest to inaugurate the festivities.

Attendees can also look forward to a series of cultural performances starting at 1:00 p.m., showcasing Kerala’s rich heritage and artistic talent. The performances will be followed by a traditional Onam feast, known as Sadya, featuring a wide array of traditional Kerala dishes for all participants to enjoy.

The event will conclude with a prize distribution ceremony at 2:15 p.m., where winners of various competitions held during the celebration will be recognized. Special awards will be given to the best traditionally dressed female and male participants, adding an extra element of excitement to the day’s events.
