Hey there, Pune residents! Big news coming your way from the Legislative Assembly today. Deputy Chief Minister and Water Resources Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, has some reassuring words for you all. He’s making sure that Pune city will have more than enough water supply to go around.

With the city’s population on the rise and the metropolitan area expanding, Fadnavis is pulling out all the stops to tackle the water demand. He’s talking about new water sources, efficient distribution schemes, and a plan called the ‘Equal Water Distribution Scheme’ to make sure every corner of Pune gets its fair share.

In response to a suggestion by member Ravindra Dhangekar, Fadnavis laid out some concrete steps to secure Pune’s water future. This includes building a tunnel from Khadakwasla to Fursungi, renovating the Khadakwasla canal, tapping into other water sources, and setting up Sewage Treatment Plants to recycle water. Plus, industries near STPs will be required to use recycled water – talk about sustainability!

Fadnavis also took a jab at the issue of water leakage in Pune, pointing out that the city is guzzling up way more water than it should. But fear not, folks, because the Equal Water Distribution Scheme is already working its magic in some parts of the city, cutting down leakage and saving precious water in the process.

And let’s not forget about rainwater harvesting! Fadnavis is all for it and wants developers to include rainwater harvesting and waste management details in building agreements. The aim is to ensure that Pune’s water supply remains reliable and sustainable, even with the addition of 23 new villages to the mix.

All in all, it looks like Pune’s water future is in good hands. With these initiatives in place, you can rest easy knowing that the taps won’t run dry anytime soon. Cheers to a water-wise Pune!
