Ahmednagar Road in Pune has become a dangerous stretch for commuters, with over 150 accidents and 68 deaths in the past nine months alone. This averages to about seven deaths per month, a shocking statistic that has left locals fearful of using the road.
Residents have expressed their concerns about the constant speeding heavy vehicles on Ahmednagar Road, with many admitting that they are afraid to travel on the road, especially with children. The fear of accidents has become a major issue for the community.
The section of Ahmednagar Road from Viman Nagar Chowk to Khandve Nagar is particularly dangerous, with 11 fatalities in 79 accidents within the Airport police station limits this year. The Lonikand police station limits have also seen a high number of deaths, with 54 men and nine women losing their lives in accidents.
Despite the ban on heavy vehicles during certain hours, dumpers continue to ply the road, putting commuters at risk. The Pune traffic police have acknowledged the problem and have promised to take action by deploying more personnel and cracking down on violators.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Amol Zende, has assured the public that strict measures will be taken to address the root causes of accidents on Ahmednagar Road. It is crucial for authorities to prioritize road safety and prevent further tragedies on this notorious stretch of road.
