Pune, February 2, 2025: The recent death of a 60-year-old man from Nanded Gaon due to complications from Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) has raised concerns in Pune. This marks the fifth fatality linked to GBS in the city.

The patient, who also suffered from hypertension, was admitted to Sassoon General Hospital on January 16. Despite receiving treatment including intravenous immunoglobulin therapy, antibiotics, and plasmapheresis, he passed away early Saturday morning due to respiratory failure caused by GBS complications.

With nine new GBS cases reported on Saturday, the total number of cases in Pune has now reached 149, with 82 patients from the newly merged city areas. The number of critically ill patients has also increased, with 83 individuals in intensive care units and 28 requiring ventilator support.

Doctors emphasize the importance of early intervention in GBS cases, as delayed medical attention can worsen outcomes. Symptoms to watch out for include muscle weakness, tingling sensations, and difficulty breathing. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and urge citizens to seek medical help if needed.
