Gloomy days ahead for Maharashtra as heavy rainfall is expected to lash the state over the next five days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for districts along the coast and the Western Ghats, with particular concern for Mumbai.

The IMD has reported cyclonic wind conditions in seven places across the country, with a low-pressure area forming in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Goa. This weather phenomenon is expected to bring increased rainfall to Maharashtra, starting from Sunday.

Mumbai is set to bear the brunt of the heavy rainfall, with three days of intense rain forecasted from Sunday to Tuesday. The Bay of Bengal branch of the monsoon has weakened, while the Arabian Sea is providing a conducive environment for the monsoon to progress rapidly.

On Friday morning, Pune and its surrounding areas experienced light rain, with cloudy skies prevailing throughout the morning. The drop in temperatures has created a slight chill in the air, but the IMD has not yet declared the official arrival of the monsoon in Pune.

Retired IMD scientist Manikrao Khule has stated that rain will persist in Maharashtra for the next few days, with heavy rainfall expected in most parts of the state, including along the coast, Western Ghats, and South-Central Maharashtra. Stay tuned for more updates on the monsoon situation in the coming days.
