The Indian film ‘Sunflowers were the first ones to know’ took home the Best Short Film award at the Cannes Film Festival. Directed by FTII student Chidananda S Naik, the film is based on a Kannada folk tale about an old woman who steals a rooster, plunging her village into darkness. FTII proudly announced the win, stating that the film brought great honor to India. The prestigious award comes with a prize money of 15,000 euros. Other winners at the festival include ‘Out of the Widow Through the Wall’ and ‘The Chaos She Left Behind’ for the second prize, and ‘Bunnyhood’ from India for the third prize. Cannes continues to showcase amazing talent from around the world, with ‘Sunflowers were the first ones to know’ standing out as a true gem.
