Petrol pump operators in Pune are up in arms over the non-acceptance of their demands by petroleum companies, leading to a protest that has caused a shortage of fuel at stations in the city. The Petrol Dealers’ Association of Pune has decided to halt the transport of petrol and diesel indefinitely, with a total of 900 pump operators from Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and surrounding areas, as well as 500 operators from Satara district, participating in the protest.

The operators have stopped sending their tankers to the depots of petroleum companies for refueling, resulting in a disruption of fuel supply. This has led to many pumps running out of fuel during the night, with the possibility of others facing the same fate if the supply does not improve soon.

President of the Association, Dhruv Ruparel, has highlighted the improper tender process for fuel transportation by petroleum companies at unviable rates, urging the companies to ensure timely delivery of fuel to avoid public inconvenience. The Association has also demanded the cancellation of all tenders for fuel transportation and the suspension of negligent officials, as well as police investigation into fuel theft incidents.

Despite discussions with petroleum companies failing to yield any solutions, the operators remain firm in their demands and have vowed not to back down. They have made it clear that petroleum companies will be held responsible if citizens face inconvenience due to fuel shortages.
