Hey there, Pune peeps! Big news coming your way – Fursungi and Uruli Devachi are breaking free from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and getting their own municipal council. It’s been a long time coming, with residents pushing for this demerger for years.

The Maharashtra state government finally listened to the demands and issued an official notification on Wednesday, confirming the establishment of a joint Fursungi-Uruli Devachi Municipal Council. These areas were brought under PMC’s jurisdiction back in 2017, but it seems like the locals weren’t too happy about it.

Purandar Tehsildar Vikram Rajput has been appointed as the administrator of the new council for now, but PMC will still have control over the waste depot in these villages. Former Purandar MLA and Shiv Sena leader Vijay Shivtare played a key role in advocating for this demerger, pointing out that being part of PMC didn’t bring much benefit to the residents.

Apparently, property taxes were high, funding for development and infrastructure was lacking, and progress was slow. Let’s hope this move brings about positive changes for the people of Fursungi and Uruli Devachi. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development!
