Hey there, Pune peeps! In some heartwarming news, a Ganpati Mandal in the city has decided to skip the immersion procession costs and instead provide financial assistance to those in need. They recently handed over a cheque of Rs 25,000 to Pandurang Trimbak Manwadkar, whose house was damaged in the recent floods at Ektangari on Sinhagad road. Now that’s what I call community spirit!

But that’s not all – the Utsav Mitra Mandal at Ganjwe Chowk in Navi Peth is also doing their bit to preserve Pune’s heritage. They’re putting on skits at Mandals to showcase the city’s rich history and culture. And let me tell you, it’s not your average school play. This year, they’re highlighting Pune’s transformation from an educational hub to a bustling city plagued by traffic, crime, and addiction. The message is clear: it’s time to reclaim Pune’s cultural and social identity.

The skit was the brainchild of Santosh Shikare and was presented as part of this year’s Ganeshotsav celebrations. And it seems like the Mandal has been at it for quite some time – they’ve been around since 1972 and every year, they use the money saved from skipping the immersion procession for various social activities. That’s what I call putting your money where your mouth is!

The cheque handover ceremony was attended by some big names including Congress state general secretary Abhay Chhajed and journalist Sambhaji Patil. Kudos to the Mandal for their efforts and let’s hope more people follow in their footsteps. It’s all about giving back to the community, folks.
