Hey there, Pune! In a recent announcement by PMC Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, the city has identified cases of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS). Samples have been sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) for testing, with Dr. Bhosale closely monitoring the situation.

With a total of 24 reported cases across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and rural areas, the health department is facing criticism for neglecting the issue. Five cases have been reported in the Sinhagad Road area and Dhayari in Pune city, with two patients on ventilator support and eight in intensive care units.

Dr. Bhosale explained that GBS is an autoimmune disorder that attacks the muscles, with cases spread across different areas of Pune district. PMC’s rapid action teams are conducting inspections in affected areas, with blood and urine samples sent to NIV for analysis.

Symptoms of GBS include weakness in hands and feet, tingling sensation in limbs, difficulty in eating and speaking, and shortness of breath or breathing difficulties. The health department is awaiting further instructions from the Maharashtra Government after receiving NIV’s report.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing situation in Pune. Remember, there’s no need to panic as PMC is actively tracking the situation. Stay safe, Pune!
