Who would have thought that a routine flight from Dubai to Pune would turn into a gold smuggling operation? Well, that’s exactly what happened on June 5, 2024, when customs officials at Pune airport intercepted a passenger on flight SG-52.
The passenger’s suspicious behavior raised red flags, prompting officials to question him about possible concealment in the aircraft. And boy, were they right to be suspicious! A thorough search of the passenger’s seat and surrounding areas led to the discovery of a hidden packet of gold paste in the pipe beneath his seat.
Upon extraction, a whopping 1088.30 grams of 24k gold, valued at a staggering Rs. 78,01,043, was uncovered. Talk about a hidden treasure!
The passenger has since been arrested, and the investigation into this gold smuggling operation is still ongoing. Looks like this passenger’s get-rich-quick scheme didn’t quite pan out as planned.
