Viman Nagar, 24th December 2024: In a heartwarming display of compassion and quick thinking, two members of the Robin Hood Army in Pune came to the rescue of an elderly man who was struck by a vehicle in Viman Nagar on Monday evening.
The incident took place near the bus stand next to Nyati Express Society around 5 PM. The elderly man, who was reportedly a beggar with no family, was found in a dire condition, unable to move and lying upside down. Despite his distress, he managed to communicate that he had been hit by a vehicle.
Shubham, a volunteer from the Robin Hood Army’s Akurdi chapter, happened to be passing by the area on his way home when he noticed the man. Upon seeing the man’s condition, Shubham wasted no time and immediately contacted the Robin Hood Army Helpline for assistance.
Aadil, a volunteer from the Viman Nagar chapter, responded promptly to the call for help. When he arrived at the scene, he found the injured man in a terrible state – lying upside down, half-naked, and in an unhygienic condition. The man, who was able to speak, informed Aadil that he had been hit by a vehicle. Aadil wasted no time and called for an ambulance and informed the police.
With the help of the ambulance staff, Aadil was able to lift the injured man and ensure his quick transportation to Sassoon Hospital within 30 minutes. He commended the swift response from the ambulance and Vimantal Police Station, highlighting their commendable actions.
The elderly man had been seen moving around until the previous day but had been immobile for hours due to his injuries. The Robin Hood Army, known for their work in distributing surplus food to the underprivileged, also operates a helpline for emergencies. Volunteers like Shubham and Aadil exemplify the dedication and commitment of the organization beyond just food distribution.
