Hey there, folks in Pune! Here’s some important news you need to know about the current situation regarding Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) in your region. The Maharashtra Government’s Public Health Department has provided an update on the outbreak, revealing that there are 181 confirmed cases of GBS in Pune, along with 27 suspected cases.

Unfortunately, the outbreak has already claimed 8 lives, with 4 confirmed deaths and 4 suspected. The cases are spread out across different areas, with 42 patients in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), 94 in newly added villages within PMC, 30 in Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), 32 in Pune Rural, and 10 in other districts.

Out of the total patients, 124 have been discharged, while 47 are still in ICU care, and 21 are on ventilator support. The most affected age group seems to be 20-29 years, with 44 cases, followed by the 50-59 age group with 30 cases.

Authorities are taking action to address the outbreak, with a state-level rapid response team visiting affected areas and increased surveillance activities. Water quality testing has been a priority, with 85 contaminated water sources identified out of 6,977 samples tested. House-to-house surveillance has also been conducted in 86,650 homes across the region.

It’s important for citizens not to panic but to seek medical attention at government hospitals if they experience symptoms like sudden weakness in limbs, difficulty walking, or prolonged diarrhea. Preventive measures include drinking boiled water, eating fresh and clean food, and avoiding stale or undercooked meat.

Stay safe and take care of yourselves, Pune!
