Pune experienced scorching heat on Friday, with temperatures reaching a sweltering 40.6°C in Lohegaon, which is 5.4°C higher than normal. The mercury soared even higher in Shirur tehsil, hitting 40.9°C, making it the hottest spot in the district. Talegaon Dhamdhere in Shirur wasn’t far behind, recording 40.3°C, indicating that rural areas are also feeling the heat.

Although the India Meteorological Department hasn’t officially declared a heatwave, experts believe that the current temperature spike is akin to one. A high-pressure system over Gujarat is to blame for the scorching temperatures across Maharashtra, and these conditions are expected to persist for the next few days.

With health risks looming, residents are advised to stay hydrated and avoid outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day. Exposure to extreme heat can be dangerous, even life-threatening. Marathwada and Vidarbha are also grappling with above-normal temperatures, with Chandrapur in Vidarbha hitting a scorching 41.4°C, which is 4.4°C higher than usual.

As Maharashtra battles rising temperatures, it’s crucial to take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses. Stay safe and stay cool!
