The helicopter craze in Pune is showing no signs of slowing down, even after the state assembly elections have ended. With the demand for joy rides, tourism, and pilgrimage trips on the rise, the aviation sector in Pune is thriving.

Pune, often called the “helicopter capital” of India, has seen a significant increase in helicopter rides since the election season. Now, around five helicopter flights are being operated daily from the city to cater to the growing passenger demand.

One of the most popular offerings is the ‘Joy Ride’ service, where passengers can take a brief five- to ten-minute “Pune Darshan” from the skies. For a fare of Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 per person, passengers can enjoy a unique aerial view of city landmarks like Shaniwar Wada and Dagdusheth Ganpati Mandir.

The joy rides typically carry six passengers and are taken from the nearest helipad. For longer journeys, such as pilgrimage trips to holy sites like Tuljapur and Shirdi, the fare ranges from Rs 1.6 lakh to Rs 1.8 lakh per hour.

Captain Nitin Welde of Thumby Aviation in Pune commented on the growing popularity of helicopter travel, stating that flying in a helicopter is a unique and enjoyable experience that many people prefer. With the overwhelming response to joy ride services in Pune, helicopters are becoming a preferred mode of transport for tourism in the city.
